TEARCARE®
EYELID TREATMENT

TearCare® System is an in-office procedure designed to treat meibomian gland dysfunction / ocular surface inflammation and associated dry eye symptoms.

Dr. Gupta likes to describe the treatment as a "facial for the eyelids".

Localized heat therapy is applied to the eyelids through flexible eyelid devices that are placed on the upper and lower eyelids. They are soft and comfortable and you may keep your eyes open or closed per your comfort.  Following the heat treatment, Dr. Gupta may manually clear away any inflammation ("clogging") of the meibomian glands similar to how pores are cleaned and blackheads removed during a facial.

When applied directly to the meibomian glands, the gentle heat softens the oil material within the glands, removes blockages, and stimulates tear production to improve symptoms such as itching, burning, stinging, and soreness.

The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes and is done in the office.

TearCare is essentially a deep cleaning procedure for your eyelids similar to a dental cleaning visit twice a year. TearCare has been proven to be effictive even once a year, but has best results when performed every 6-9 months.

*The TearCare® System is NOT covered by Medicare and commercial insurance plans
