GLAUCOMA  LASER  TREATMENT
SELECTIVE  LASER  TRABECULOPLASTY  (SLT)

The goal of glaucoma treatment is lower the eye pressure. There are three main ways to treat pressure medically / in the office: eye drops, laser treatments, or a dissolvable implant. If these interventions are not sufficient in lowering the eye pressure, surgery in the operating room may be required.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is an in-office laser treatment that targets the specialized cells in the eye responsible for lowering eye pressure. The laser treatment allows these cells to work more effectively. It takes about 5 minutes to do, painless, with no precautions before hand or restrictions afterwards. SLT is effective about 75% of the time and is typically equivalent to one eye drops medication. It is not a permanent treatment and may be repeated if the effect wears off. 

More and more literature has come out that shows how successful SLT is in lowering eye pressure. Dr. Gupta offers SLT treatment as a first-line option as well as in addition to eye drops if more treatment is required.
